What does it mean to be part of the “grain community”?

Nourishing people is not something we can take lightly. It is a collective responsibility and a commitment we all share, regardless of our role in the Group. It is also what makes our work so meaningful. From field to fork, we are all part of the grain community. And that is quite something!

When we talk about a “community”, we are referring to a group of people with something in common

In our cooperative Group, we actually have two things in common –  our grain and agriculture more broadly. It’s this community that makes our Group stand out, and gives us our strength. We are a community of men and women, farmers and employees, who pool their knowledge and ideas to look after the grain. We look after it in the fields and in the silos, when we deliver it by train, by barge or by truck to food processing sites where we use it to make ingredients and the food products we all enjoy every day – flour, bread, croissants, malt for beer, biscuits and much more.

Our shareholders are also part of our grain community

Because we are a cooperative Group, our shareholders are not sat in some far-off ivory tower. They are our member-farmers and they are entrepreneurs at heart. We know them. We work for them and with them, every day.

Our grain community comes to life in our sustainable development strategy

We have called it “Link”, because our Group is all about connections. Connections to the land and to people – our colleagues of course, and beyond that our consumers and everyone around the world that we help to feed, as well as connections to our industries and regions, which inspire us and which we contribute to. These connections are central to our cooperative business model. They are the mainstay of our relationships with our environment and our stakeholders. They determine our progress and our future success.

Our HR policy exists to strengthen connections within VIVESCIA

In a rapidly changing and sometimes complex world, we plan ahead, adapt and stand together. Welcoming and onboarding new recruits, providing continuing career development opportunities, promoting mobility and offering tailored solutions for employees where they’re required are constant priorities. To get this right, we need to be in close contact with our people, listening to what they say, providing them with recognition and encouraging two-way communication, as well as being attentive to quality of life in the workplace and work-life balance. Health and safety at work is our absolute priority. Our “CARE” safety culture irrigates the entire Group on a daily basis. These commitments are non-negotiable because they are the condition for employee engagement, service quality and the long-term future of our businesses.

Lastly, this grain community underpins our values, which we have specifically selected to be pragmatic

They have grown out of our cooperative history. They describe our principles and how we put them into practice – in the past, in the present and in the future.

This is the crux of how our cooperative Group operates: men and women joining forces to achieve something that they could not have done individually. The pleasure of sharing our ideas and finding effective solutions together, to achieve our objectives and meet the challenges of the future.

This is another principle that is written in our DNA. And it is as strong today as it ever was. It reflects a desire to act boldly and quickly to build for the future, to surpass yourself, and the capacity to take measured risks.

Is the choice to be oneself, to be honest and fair in one's relationships with others. It also means being prepared to call ourselves into question. This value requires us to respect other people and cultures, behave appropriately and follow safety rules. And last but not least, it signifies safeguarding the environment.

It’s up to us to empower them to fulfil their potential in life! We also believe in delivering on the commitments we have made to our teams, just as we deliver on the commitments that we make to our customers

And lastly, we believe that, as a cooperative group, we have an even greater responsibility than other businesses to behave as a good corporate citizen, contribute to society and protect the environment long-term, in our local areas and beyond. As a Group, we have a very ethical focus, and we need like-minded colleagues who share our values. Your talents, your entrepreneurial spirit, your sense of responsibility and teamwork, and your engagement are the motors behind our current performance and our future success! »
